Library

Hilden Oaks School library is an enchanting place to visit and plays an important part in contributing to the culture of reading for pleasure throughout the school, as well as encouraging every child to develop their library skills. It is a place where the children are encouraged to talk about their choices of reading matter, to appreciate books and to develop their attitude to reading, encouraging them to be readers for life. The library has a wide selection of both fiction and non-fiction resources that support the school curriculum, as well as catering to the children’s own personal interests.

Each class from Kindergarten through to Form 6 have a weekly library session. Once children have joined the main school, they can choose books to take home as well as engage in a storytelling session with the resident librarian. The children are trained as class librarians and, using the library management system, they are responsible for returning and issuing library books to their respective forms.

Throughout the academic year various reading initiatives and events are celebrated. We have Book Week where we have visiting authors or illustrators come into school to inspire our budding readers and writers, alongside various other book related activities throughout the year: Book Fairs, sponsored Read for Good Readathon, World Book Day. The pupils thoroughly enjoy their time in the library and are enthusiastic to continue their reading journey in such a bright, welcoming and comfortable environment.
